ABOUT OBSIDIAN ANGUS

Obsidian Angus was born from a need to add hybrid vigor to a set of Hereford cattle, while curbing the pulmonary anemia that was associted with the angus bulls we had been purchasing to use on our heifers and three year olds.  The bulls raised from the angus heifers purchased in the Northwest Wyoming Angus Sale in 1979, along with those cattle added from seveal dispersals within the next ten years took a weaning weight average of 450 pounds on a truck load of steer calves in the early eighties to an all herd average of 706 pounds by 1995 and 1996 when we sold the major part of the cattle ranch to take care of my Mother.

Along the way we bred the 1994 NAILE Junior Show Champion, plus the 1994 National Western Junior Show Champion with Obsidian Madeline 462 and Obsidian Lady Ace of Spades respectfully shown by Heather Ward of Wisconsin.  Our Midland Test Station and WBCIA entrants either pushed into the top ten gainers or topped their tests, yet were still patterned to win shows.
